Greg Norman Setting Up Epic Choke
Posted by Mac10 on July 18, 2008
With a few players still left to finish, Greg Norman is currently leading the British Open after two rounds:
With 36 holes to go, Norman still considers himself the longest of long shots, and he’s got players half his age — such as 26-year-old Camilo Villegas, who shot the best round yet with a brilliant 5-under 65 Friday — ready to chase him down over the final two rounds.
Still, it was amazing to see Norman’s name atop the leaderboard at a tournament he won in 1986 at Turnberry and then again in at Royal St. George’s seven years later.
Greg Norman was actually my favorite golfer as a kid as part of my lifelong love for all things Australia. Of course, I didn’t realize until it was too late that Norman was one of the biggest chokers in sports history. The positive of this was that watching Norman choke away majors prepared me for the inevitable disappointment I would experience as a Cubs and Jazz fan. So while I’m rooting for Norman to stage the most miraculous majors victory ever, I fully expect an 80 from him tomorrow.
